A tropical heat wave shows no signs of abating in Europe, with temperatures expected to hit as high as 104 degrees Fahrenheit. [more]
Deutsche Welle said this July could be the hottest month in Germany in a century.
Meteorologists say the high temperatures this summer may beat the 2003 season, which broke records and resulted in around 30,000 fatalities, the newspaper said.
French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin planned to visit a Parisian retirement home to demonstrate the measures the government was taking to care for the elderly population -- who are particularly vulnerable to the sweltering temperatures.
