Atari has announced a closed public beta test of the upcoming FPS, TimeShift. Developed by Saber Interactive, TimeShift is a game about Michael Swift, a test pilot who is briefly sent back in time to gather data. You return to Washington D.C. [more] in an alternate timeline and as an enemy of a fascist government. Now on the run and wearing a multi-billion dollar time shifting suit, it is your mission to set time straight once again.
Some key features of the multiplayer mode include: Arsenal of incredibly detailed weapons each with standard and alternate fire, compete against up to 16 players, stop and slow players using unique time grenades, operate numerous gun turrets and stop other players in their tracks, and an array of indoor, urban, and outdoor environments. A very limited number of testers will also be selected to test the Single Player campaign.

CPU: 2 GHz or equivalent
RAM: 512MB
HDD free space: 6GB
Video Card: 128MB VRAM, pixel shader 1.1 support
Network: ADSL or better
TimeShift is due for release on PC and Xbox 360 in the spring, with a version for the Xbox arriving in the summer. The planned launch date for the beta is the last week of January, 2006.
