Cherry juice helps prevent muscle pain due to its high antioxidant content, according to a study from the United States.
In the study, conducted by researchers in the state [more] of Vermont, a group of 14 volunteers was asked to conduct rigorous exercise. For three days before and four days after, one group was given diluted cherry juice while the other received a placebo.
Placebo recipients lost 22 per cent of their muscle strength after the training. But those who received cherry juice only lost 5 per cent. Muscle ache was less developed after drinking the juice and the worst of it was over within 24 hours. The control group only reported a reduction in pain after 48 hours.
