Looks like Germany is about to become one broadband-saturated country. And this is because, at CeBIT, Deutsche Telekom has announced that it plans to invest around 200 mln eur this year in expanding its broadband coverage all around Germany.[more]
According to AFX, Deutsche Telekom AG's broadband and fixed-line unit T-Com will invest around 200 mln eur this year in expanding its broadband coverage in Germany, the unit said at the CeBIT technology fair.
'We want to further optimise the use of broadband wherever possible in Germany and will therefore ensure improved coverage in the DSL (direct subscriber line) market,' said Walter Raizner, head of T-Com.
Deutsche Telekom has already said it plans to invest 3.0 bln eur in a new ultra high-speed broadband network in Germany.
Meanwhile, wireless unit T-Mobile announced it has signed an agreement with Infront to broadcast games of the coming 2006 football World Cup via its mobile phone network.
T-Mobile will broadcast 20 World Cup games live, said unit head Rene Obermann.
In addition to live streaming, T-Mobile will provide highlights of the games and other interactive features through a collaboration with German pay-TV broadcaster Premiere AG.
