Baidu And Google Dominate Search Engine Market In China According to a recent report published by iResearch, analysts noted that China's most wanted search engines are Baidu – number one - and Google – number two, holding a cumulative 90 percent of the search market shares. [more]

Baidu.com is the leader with 56.6 percent, while Google comes next a share of only 32.8 percent, despite its efforts to dominate the online Chinese market. However, their about 90 percents held together surpass every other engines, such as Yahoo! which has less than 5 percent.

Google's popularity also seems to have slipped in the last two years from the 34.8 percent it had in 2003 and this is probably a consequence of the censorship imposed by Google China after the company's collaboration with the local government.

Also mentioned in the iResearch report it the fact that, last year, 87.4 percent of the Chinese who have access to the Internet, which means 97.06 million people, have used the services provided by search engines.

It is expected that by the end of 2006 that number will cross 100 million.
