Firmware 2.60 Brings RSS, WMA Support and Other Goodies To PSP

The PSP is turning slowly, but surely into a mobile Internet browsing handheld, and the latest firmaware upgrade confirms this trend. Sony has decided to release Firmaware Version 2.6, that comes packed will all kinds of goodies.[more]
Thus, the first major upgrade is that now PSPs have RSS support, which appears as a button in the PSP's network menu alongside the existing Internet browser and LocationFree Player icons. Users can add RSS feeds from Web sites they visit by clicking on the relevant RSS feed buttons or links and then check these feeds through the RSS Channel menu. Support for podcasts is also included.
Apparently, the new upgrade also contains support for WMA (but not for PlaysForSure, WMA9 Professional, and WMA9 Lossless, from obvious reasons), as well as the ability to download copyright-protected video directly to the PSP's MemoryStick Duo memory card from the system's Web browser. In the past, video downloads of commercial content had to be done on a PC and then transferred to the PSP.
And considering the huge importance of the Chinese market, support for simplified Chinese (GB18030) and traditional Chinese (Big5) character encoding has also been added to the Web browser.
Well, seeing all this upgrades and technological innovations, one can't help but wonder...how long do we still have to wait for the tricorder?
