IPS Alpha Technology plans to double its production of LCD monitors including a new plant in the Czech Republic, media reports said Wednesday. Matsushita Electric Industrial Co and Hitachi Ltd will each buy 15-billion-yen (133-million-dollar) stakes in IPS Alpha, which will invest the money in [more] expanded capacity, the Japanese daily newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported Wednesday.
IPS Alpha plans to use half of its new capital for an assembly plant in the Czech Republic and the other half to expand LCD-monitor production in Japan. The electronics company hopes the investments will double its annual output of LCD monitors from 2.5 million to 5 million units by 2008.
IPS Alpha was founded last year by Toshiba and a consortium of other Japanese electronics firms.
