Comedy Central teamed up with Xbox Live to bring the first free episode from South Park in high definition for Xbox 360 owners.[more]
Starting tomorrow, fans of South Park who are also owners of Microsoft’s next-gen gaming console and have a valid subscription to Xbox Live will be able to watch Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman’s adventures in HD for the first time, with the launch of "Good Times With Weapons" episode.
Comedy Central, a division of MTV Networks, which in turn is a subsidiary of media giant Viacom, agreed to offer the episode free of charge on Xbox Live Marketplace, for two weeks.
In addition to this, Comedy Central partnered with Best Buy to offer clients HD DVD copies of the aforementioned episode of South Park- a limited offer that lasts between March 20 and April 3. The HD DVD copy of "Good Times With Weapons" will also be offered at no cost for clients who purchase any Xbox 360 console or HD DVD external drive, through April 3, while supplies last.
Also for the first time ever, the newest episodes from Season 11 will be available uncensored on Xbox LIVE beginning March 13. Since its debut on Xbox LIVE, "South Park" episodes have been among the most popular downloads.
Xbox Live Marketplace currently features seasons five through nine of “South Park”, along with the critically-acclaimed movie, "South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut" and "Chappelle's Show"." Since its debut on Xbox Live, "South Park" episodes have been among the most popular downloads.
On Xbox Live, high-definition television shows, which are download-to-own, cost 240 Microsoft Points ($3.00), while standard-definition TV shows cost 160 MS Points ($2.00). New release HD movies, which are download-to-rent, cost 480 MS Points ($6.00), while standard-def new release movies cost 320 MS Points ($4.00). In addition, "classic feature films" in HD require 360 MS Points ($4.50), while standard-def classics are available for 240 MS Points ($3.00).
