A woman from Woodstock, Ill., recently rediscovered a 1940 NFL championship watch that once belonged to the Chicago Bears' Gary [more] Famiglietti.
The watch was from the 1940 championship in which the Bears beat the Washington Redskins 73-0, the most-lopsided title victory in league history, the Chicago Sun-Times said.
Holly Swanson's husband, who has passed away, received the watch as part of a payment for a plumbing job in the early 1990s.
"My husband did a job for an older man," said Swanson, an insurance agent in McHenry. "As part of the payment, the man gave him this watch. He put it in a drawer about 15 years ago. I've been going through some of his things, and I found the box. I had completely forgotten we ever had it."
The Longines watch has Chicago Bears, Gary Famiglietti F.B., 1940 World's Champions engraved on the back.
Swanson said she plans on selling the watch on eBay, and said that the Bears themselves may be interested in purchasing it.
"I'm a diehard Bears fan," said Swanson. "So, if they give me the right price, I would like to see the Bears have it."
