European telecom giant Deutsche Teleokom announced it has sold more than 70,000 Apple iPhone handhelds since the inception of the craved gadget on the German market.
It appears Germans are [more] not displeased with iPhone's lack of 3G connectivity since more than 70,000 of them have signed long-term contracts with T-mobile, Deutsche Telekom's mobile subsidiary. The multi-media phone was launched last year on November 9.
"The iPhone is by far the most sold multimedia device in T-Mobile's portfolio," the head of T-Mobile Germany, Philipp Humm, said in an interview published on T-Mobile's Intranet. The company has obtained exclusive distribution rights from Apple in Germany but has been forced to sell the smartphone at the exorbitant price of €999 (about $1500) following a complaint from its rival Vodafone.
In France Apple's touchscreen gadget is doing even better, with more than 70,000 contracts signed in a shorter period of time (Orange France launched the iPhone on November 28, 2007).
Overall, Apple reported more than 4 million iPhones sold since June 29, 2007, when its revolutionary handheld debuted.
