NTT DoCoMo To Sell 3G Mobile Handhelds From HTC In Japan

In a very interesting business decision, one of the most important players on the Japanese telecommunications’ market, NTT DoCoMo, will market third-generation FOMA handsets designed by Taiwan-based High Tech Computer Corp.[more]

According to their agreement, the commercial sale of the handsets, which are made based on Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 Japanese edition operating systems, will be targeted for launch in the second half of the year, HTC said in a statement, according to AFX.

HTC's handset will be designed to provide mobile solutions for corporate users and will incorporate synchronisation with Windows Server and Exchange Server to offer messaging and other business support.

The model will offer dual-mode WCDMA and GSM/GPRS on a single handset, and offer voice, video and packet communications compatible with Wireless LAN and will feature a QWERTY keyboard. There's no confirmation of what specific model will be used as a basis for this new series.

No date is specified yet (and company officials were not immediately available to comment further), but NTT DoCoMo and HTC aim to launch commercial sales sometime in the second half of 2006.
