Now there's something you don't see everyday anymore - a game company focuses so much on developing a game for the PC that they exclude a console from the lineup. In this case, the people at EA revealed that there are no plans for a Wii version of Spore at the moment. This comes as a surprize to most, as Will Wright, the creator of the game, seemed keen on launching a Wii / DS version of its game. "We've been messing around with the Wii dev kit and we're really interested in the possibilities there. It's possible the editors might be more manageable on that system. The DS is also very interesting to us, as its control scheme could be very manageable for the game," he had said in an interview for IGN, about a month ago.
Lots of sites had already branded the Wii version of the game as "confirmed", and there was talk about how the Wii game could be connected with the DS, so one would be able to play the game wherever. Everything seemed good and jolly, until EA released a statement saying that "Right now we’re 100% focused on finishing SPORE on the PC and PC only. Though we’re investigating the possibilities of bringing the franchise to other platforms in the future, any announcements or confirmations for the Wii or any other platform would be premature".
So there you have it, Spore will only target the PC at its release, but we can expect it to be available on other platforms later, since Will Wright expressed his wish to make Spore a franchise, with more games to come.
It might actually be good news, as it will allow the developers to focus on optimizing the gameplay experience for the PC owners, which should guarantee an enjoyable game experience when the game does come out.
